tonight i went to barnes and noble and there was a vintage clothing book with twiggy(!) on the cover. it had broken down the era's into chapters of high fashion. there was a dress on one of the pages that was amazing. it was chiffon, creme-colored with beading and sequins and had a red-orange something intertwined in the front and back... i know i'm not explaining it well (i've talked about that before) but you have to see it:) i know i keep saying "you have to see it for yourself" but to me fashion is about seeing and not so much of the reading/hearing.

the constant

sweaters. we have all had one that we have loved, hated and received as a gift. they seem to go in and out of style every season but it seems like this winter all the sweaters from the past are "in." i have seen nineties ribbed ones, turtlenecks, and crew-necked. whether e get them as an ugly gift from our great aunt or the ones we pick out from bergdorf's, they are definitely stylish.

blocking

all summer long i stayed rather isolated in my ideas. i wanted my inspiration to come from things a noticed, saw or heard rather than copying or even being inspired by other designers work. when school started i didn't have as much time to sew although i did find time to design in class. after drill team practice i would look at other designers runway shows and other countries "street style" to feed my desire. when i first saw afshin feiz i was surprised to see similarities in our design styles. both of us loved using color-blocking, the same silhouettes, and a line predominately featuring dresses. i haven't found a dress of his that i don't like in some way which i can't say about any other designer. he hadn't been on my radar until this season but now i can pick out his creations without even looking for his name! his designs are so feminine and delicate that they aren't demanding. you can look at his dresses without being overwhelmed by color, texture, or shape. i will be disappointed if all of his seasons aren't like this one.

double take

one of my favorite designers this season is roberto cavalli for obvious reasons. it seems like every time i open a magazine i see one of his two most popular fall collection dresses and sometimes both. I'm sure if you have looked at a magazine since september (vanity fair is the first time i saw them) you will see his unique dresses. i don't exactly know how to describe them and i haven't figured up how to post pictures yet (please don't laugh:) so i think you are going to have to find them for yourself-it shouldn't be too hard. he is also coming to h&m (yay!) this season.

the beginning

although i have always known that i want to work in the fashion industry, i started making dresses in june of this past summer. i was shopping at th:e fabric store for a fabric to make a skirt with a pattern that i already had and i came across a golden textured fabric that immediately became a dress in my mind. of course i bough the fabric and that was my first design. Since then i have seen dresses that have the same style as mine show up in magazines like vogue (or teen vogue to be more specific). the inspiration is a little bit "gladiatoresque" which sounds strange but it kind of works. my original vision defiantly didn't turn out as i had hoped but i got the basic principle of the design and after a few months i redid the top half. now it looks presentable. ever since i have experienced with a few different top parts of the dresses but the bottom half stays relatively the same: belted with full pleats that sit high on my hips.

connections

this season i have really noticed the similarities between designers. in french class we watch an awesome movie called Les Parapluies de Cherbourg (the umbrellas of cherbourg). the clothes in the film are awe inspiring and it reminds me of the fall collection for Preen. the bright colors and classic silhouettes are nearly identical! i don't know why it makes me so excited but it fascinates me these trends keep showing up.

trendsetting

earlier today i was searching for a decent blog or website about upcoming trends/"happening" trend and i found absolutely nothing. soooo i decided to start my own. this blog probably won't be good for a while but i think it could help (and it will give me something to do). with that said, i would love to have your contributions or critiques:)
